International Race Of Champions

Targa Promotions LLC has organized something new for our Porsche enthusiasts. Read on below

In 1973 Roger Penske, ABC TV, and Porsche organized the International Race Of Champions, aka IROC. Fifteen identically prepared 74 Porsche RSRs were assigned to different championship drivers for each race. There were three races at Riverside and two at Daytona for the finale. We have revived this group as a tribute to the original IROC Porsches.

Already, we have fifteen commitments from car owners who are in the process of preparing their cars

All the cars must display the graphics livery of the originals, with the same 1974 IROC RSR bodywork. Colors are not limited to the original 15 chosen but must be solid choices—no fancy stripes or other styles that are not of the original IROC theme.

If 15" tires are available, then we strongly suggest that the cars have 9 and 11 x 15 Fuchs style rims. Otherwise, the 16" wheels are allowed until the suitable 15" tires can be fitted

We have two stages to our group:

Touring: Street registered cars that will participate in back roads drives, unique group car displays, and "IROC" only events. These may include track lapping sessions as part of a race weekend where our Track group is entered

Track: Cars prepared to the race standards as required by the sanctioned organizations we share a weekend with. Exhibition style races solely for our group where points are awarded for best sportsmanship, best prepared car that imitates the original IROC Porsches. The focus is on passing and being passed to put on a show. Note that we encourage the Track members to join us in Touring events.

Since there are no restrictions on engine and drivetrain modifications, and the lack of awards for finishing positions, those drivers that are too competitive will be held back to mix it up with the slower entrants. Again the goal is to put on a show

We are working on three Track group events for 2024 and three or four Touring group events
